ITANAGAR: The Indore-based regional flier, FlyBig airlines will be connecting Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati, the largest city of Northeast India from January 15, 2023. The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu announced this over Twitter on Thursday, December 29.
The new airport was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi on November 19. He laid the foundation stones of the project in the year 2019. Spread over 4100 square meters, the terminal has a peak hour capacity of serving 200 passengers. It also aims to highlight the traditions and culture along with the architecture of the Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
"Delighted to meet Shri Ratan Ambhore, head of ground operations, @flybigairlines, that is going to start Itanagar-Guwahati flight service from Jan 15, 2023, by deploying 70-seater ATR 72-500 aircraft, at #DonyiPolo airport," mentioned the chief minister over Twitter.
Pema Khandu also assessed the facilities and reviewed the progress at the new airport and asked the concerned parties to complete the hiring of manpower for several positions as soon as possible. He also ordered the contractors to complete the pending work within the deadline, even if that needed people to work two shifts every day. The chief minister added "The proposed terminal building has a touch of our rich tribal culture and architecture. "
He made the announcement before boarding a flight from the Donyi Polo Airport. He boarded a FligBig plane which took him to Kolkata on Thursday.
The new flight service will decrease both travel time and cost between the two capitals. Although it has not been officially announced, ticketing platforms are currently showing tickets at just above Rs 1000 plus necessary taxes. This will benefit not only the travellers to Arunachal Pradesh but also the people of Assam residing in the nearby regions in terms of both travel and transportation.
